Laundry Room Mood Boards

The other day, I let you know that my next room to tackle is our laundry/powder room on the main floor of our house. It hasn't been touched since we bought the house 7 years ago, and is in a major need of an upgrade. I think it would be a really nice way to tie the house together and make it feel cohesive.<br /><br />My plan would be to stencil 1-2 of the walls using the pattern from the top in mint and white, left corner of the mood board <i>(Yes! I'm going to try stenciling again! I like this option because I love how really white rooms look with natural colors of wood. We'd use the same stencil in this option, with the super light grey and white.<br /><br />A couple of caveats to this mood board is that a lot of the woodwork Justin would build us instead of buying, so we'd be able to stain them all the same color. So the shelves and mirror be the same color wood, and the mirror would be larger (of course) to go above the sink.<br /><br />This laundry room makeover is going to be done in stages with the cosmetic things like the paint, stenciling, baskets and maybe the shelf coming in Round 1, then mirror, light fixtures and new vanity/sink over time. But while this makeover will likely take some time, I want to make sure I have a solid plan before getting to far in.<br /><br />So what do you think? It was really generous offer and as a Mom, I was like excited it was a great place for the kids to sit and eat / play but the decor side of my brain was pained with the red and blue because it just stood out like a sore thumb in our garden. For the last 12 months it hid in our parking space because I just couldn't handle seeing it in my garden. I tried some days to have it in the garden but within a few hours I was dragging it back into hiding. Some days I debated donating it or posting it for free in my local Facebook Buy & Sell group. But then I would tell myself I was being ridiculous and needed to chill out. But one day I couldn't take it anymore and I walked out to where it was and sprayed it with a can of white paint that I had in my basement. But the white was pretty WHITE and even though I no longer saw red, blue and yellow - I saw a frosty white table that stood out just as much. Small Laundry Room Inspiration

Happy Monday friends! I hope you all had an awesome fourth of July weekend like Justin & I did. So.Much.Fun.<br /><div><br /></div><div>But now it's time to dive back into the real world, which involves trying to wake up for work this morning (which was a struggle) and back to all of you! </div><div><br /></div><div>One of the projects that's top of mind for me lately is our Laundry/Bathroom on the main floor. I picked up a few and decided to try a little DIY project - inspired by the ones <a href="http://aubreyandlindsay.blogspot.ca/2014/04/southworks-antiques-cambridge-ontario.html" target="_blank">I saw here.</a> First <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 19.200000762939453px;">I </span>started by designing two milk / dairy logos. Sites I like for fonts are <a href="http://www.veer.com/" target="_blank">Veer </a>(paid fonts) and <a href="http://www.dafont.com/" target="_blank">DaFont </a>(free fonts). You can see what your text will look like before committing to buy or, downloading.<br /><a name="more"></a><br />With my two logos designed I started to try to figure out how to apply the image to the glass. I first tried the approach of putting the design in the bottle and tracing it (<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/4574037092460332/" target="_blank">like this</a>) but I had <i>disastrous </i>results - it wasn't as crisp and accurate as I wanted. So, I called up my printer guy I usually work with on special projects and asked if they did decals. We worked together to get the sizing right and... well. A tip is to look at the back of the glass and you can see if any bubbles are appearing on the reverse. Major fail. The paint ended up peeling up with the stencil, so I tried it a second time using a spray paint. Tape up the rest of the bottle using painters tape and do a light spray over the stencil. Although you can use any spray potentially, I love the <a href="http://www.krylon.com/" target="_blank">Krylon </a>brand that you can pick up at Canadian Tire. The red colour above seemed to be the closest to the vintage milk bottle colours I had researched. I found that you didn't actually have to be <i>that </i>careful, as the adhesion to the glass was amazing. But still, be careful especially if you have small details. Smaller areas I had to be slow at doing.
