Thanks for all of the kind words for our Master Bedroom reveal yesterday!  It's such a great feeling hearing that everyone loves it was much as we do, and all of our hard work was worth it.

So through the next few weeks, I'm going to show you the behind the scenes of how we built, DIY'ed and transformed that room from a hazardous construction zone to this beauty.

Master Bedroom with DIY Artwork

From our DIY headboard  all the way down to how to install sheetrock, we're going to take you along for the ride. Today, we're starting with some simple, DIY artwork for the bedroom.

Affordable DIY Art for the Bedroom

Last month, I shared how to DIY some abstract art for your home. And these three pieces of art follow the same color scheme and painting style as that project, tying the entire room's art together in a cohesive theme.

I knew I wanted these pieces to be simple, yet bright and bold. I found inspiration through Pinterest (of course!), falling in love with this DIY artwork, and decided to build a "collection" around this idea. I loved how simple painting simple lines in several colors from the same palette looked. So, I decided to mimic this piece in a pink palette and a blue palette, then create another piece that blended the two colors together.

DIY Final Bedroom Artwork

Now, getting down to how I made them.

I started with the white, RIBBA picture frames that I recently purchased on an Ikea trip. I knew this was the size of frames that I wanted for the space (approximately 20x20, each), so I made my art to fit my frames. I use Canson Mix Media paper, which I purchase from Micheal's.

DIY Artwork Paper

I cut the three pieces of paper to fit my frame, then taped them to a DIY Art board that Justin made me. It's just a spare piece of MDF that we had laying around the garage, but you can easily tape your artwork down to a spare piece of wood, or even your table if you use blue painters tape! You'll definately want to tape your pages down to keep the paper from warping or curling too much.

DIY Artwork Set Up

Using BASIC Acrylic Paint from Micheals , I started mixing a very small amount of each color that I wanted to use. Since I was only doing one stripe of each color, I barely needed any paint at all.

Basics Paint
For all these paintings, there really isn't a wrong way to paint it. So don't stress, and have fun with it!! For the two stripe paintings, it was literally as easy as getting paint on your brush, swiping a big line, and then rinsing off that color paint to move onto the next color. My only tip for these paintings is to paint all the colors while everything is wet. Don't allow the paint to dry before moving onto the next color.

For the center photo, I wanted each color block to be distinct from the next, so I did allow for the paint to dry between each color.  And again, there's no rhyme or reason for how or why I painted these color blocks the way I did, so give yourself some freedom to have fun!

DIY Artwork

After a couple hours of dry time (depending on how thick your paint is) they were ready to be put into their new Ikea frames and hung on the wall!

Project Time: 40 minutes
Project Cost: $60 for three Ikea frames, $0 for art*

*Since I already had my paper and paint, the artwork itself costed me $0.   If you needed to purchase the paper and a few colors of paint, you're looking at around $38 for the artwork.
