Oscar did two carousel rides, one train ride, had a grilled cheese sandwhich, met Santa, listened to carols and ran around the cobblestone streets ringing his big gold bell that he brought for the occasion (which you can spot in one of the photos above).<br /><br />I'm finding getting into Christmas a little bit hard this year - which I know is understandable. Our house isn't really decorated for the season and I'm not feeling any urgency to pull out the decor - but the magic of Christmas really came back seeing the excitement through Oscar tonight. Plus, it's hard not to feel festive when you see Santa, hear carols, and you're outside with twinkling lights all around you. It really is a gorgeous spot to visit.<br /><br /><i>Tips: We went around 4:00pm when the light was starting to fade. Although it's likely not the case on weekends we had no problems finding parking and Oscar didn't have to wait in a line for Santa. </i>

So here is a roundup of the last weeks events...<br /><br /><ol><li>We celebrated Oscar's half birthday. Yes. We celebrate half birthdays. We love reasons to celebrate (and eat cake)</li><li>Home Depot sent me some of their <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/catalog/servlet/ContentView?pn=BR_MSL_Holiday&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053" target="_blank">Martha Stewart holiday ornaments</a>.  I love the collection they sent because of the faux round pine cones.</li><li>Aubrey finished <a href="http://aubreyandlindsay.blogspot.ca/2012/06/front-hall-tile.html" target="_blank">the front hall tile!</a></li><li>Thanks to <a href="http://shoanajensen.com/2012/11/29/advent-tree/" target="_blank">Shoana for featuring my mini cotton bags + Free advent printable on Cityline last week</a>. Sales of the little bags went crazy!</li><li>We took Oscar to his first rock concert. <a href="http://www.raffinews.com/" target="_blank">Raffi</a>!!! </li><li>Oscar was star struck. Maybe I was a little too. It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. </li><li>I attended a <a href="http://www.brother.ca/" target="_blank">Brother Printer </a>event thanks to <a href="http://www.yummymummyclub.ca/" target="_blank">Yummy Mummy Club</a> and <a href="http://www.yummymummyclub.ca/blogs/sarah-gunn-wall-candy" target="_blank">Sarah Gunn</a>. We were gifted <a href="http://www.brother.ca/en/business-smart/" target="_blank">a gorgeous printer</a>. Because I have a huge monster printer of my own that I use for my <a href="http://www.pennypaperco.com/" target="_blank">shop</a>, I gave the printer to my Mom - who had been saying for awhile that she needed a new printer. She was super excited. :) </li><li>The lovely ladies, <a href="http://www.yummymummyclub.ca/blogs/sarah-gunn-wall-candy" target="_blank">Sarah </a>and <a href="http://www.citytv.com/cityline/personalities/95694--leigh-ann-allaire-perrault" target="_blank">Leigh-Anne</a> have been so kind in supporting my little shop - Sarah used one of my stamps on Cityline and Leigh-Anne has a few cool projects that she's been working on for the show. Had a great time hanging out with them at the Brother event (picture no.7) even though I was McSneezy. </li></ol><div>That I think brings me up to date on what has been going on in my life. :)</div>

DIY color lamp

I went back and forth over which color I should paint it (between white, pale yellow, and hot pink) and eventually landed on hot pink because I love how much <a href="http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2012/11/diy-color-chandelier.html" target="_blank">my colored chandelier</a> turned out. <br /><br />Here's a simple <strong>How-To paint your lamp a new color</strong>! <br /><br /><strong>Step 1:</strong> Clean off all the dust & grime. If it's wooden, sand all surfaces for the paint to stick. <br /><br /><strong>Step 2:</strong> Tape any areas that should not be covered by paint; primarily the cord & the entire top portion where you screw in the lightbulb. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/8240045620/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="2012-11-189 by klacowsky, on Flickr"><img alt="2012-11-189" height="457" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8349/8240045620_8a648a1ce2_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /><strong>Step 3:</strong> Spray paint or paint away. If using spray paint, the best strategy is having multiple light layers rather than thick layers. If your property is part of a condo complex that forbids front yard décor, a wreath usually falls within regulations. And it could be one of the things that distinguishes your unit from other units buyers look at that day. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">If you don’t have a wreath on (or near) your front door, and you want one that’s unique and cheap, look around for what you can re-purpose or upcycle. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">A wire coat hanger? A <a href="http://diyhomestagingtips.blogspot.com/2012/09/diy-tutorial-how-to-make-pine-cone.html" target="_blank">picture frame</a>? It makes people smile when they see it! I painted the clay stars and gave them a few coats of clear sealer, so we will see if that is sufficient weatherproofing.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i><b>Update: Seagulls seem to think the bakers clay embellishments are for snacking.  </b></i><br /><i><b>I'm bringing the wreath home to replace what's left of the starfish with real shells.   </b></i><br /><i><br /></i><br /><div style="text-align: left;">A "statement wreath" like this adds some personality to a property. I'm in <i>love </i>with this wreath and is possibly my favourite holiday item in our house.  The reason why no "how to" on this wreath was ever posted was because this project actually happened without much thought - and therefore, without much effort in documenting (via photos) how I did it. I was amazed at how with careful folding, rubbing and sometimes adding a wee bit of water - paper could be manipulated.  Although I do feel as though anyone can do this project - this project will require patience and some love when it comes to making the leaves. Good luck! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong><u>Materials:</u></strong> You will want to have lots of kraft paper on hand, and cardboard (any will do) White Glue, Hot Glue Gun, Scissors, and something that is BIG and round - this will be what you use as a template for the outer circle of the wreath. I used a board game that was round. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Step 1:</strong> <strong>Make a wreath out of cardboard<br />Pointer: Super time consuming. Even I got frustrated at this part.</strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Get a lot of cardboard. It doesn't need to match. You can get old cereal boxes. Lay them all out and I'd suggest you tape them with heavy duty tape together. Once they are laid out, lay your circular template item above it, and trace a circle. I know that this isn't very clear, but basically you want to make a wreath out of cardboard. It needn't be pretty - or perfect, because eventually it will be covered in leaves. But try your best to make it as circular as possible. I'm sure you can figure this part out, it's a little time consuming and awkward but it's not a huge deal if it's not perfect. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Step 2:</strong> <strong>Paper Mache Your Wreath</strong> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Pointer: Easy as pie</strong></div>You're going to paper mache your cardboard wreath in the same kraft paper that you're going to make the leaves out of. Why? You don't want the cardboard to show through the leaves and this also means that if you hang the wreath on a mirror, as I have, the back of the wreath isn't ugly. I simply took white glue, added a wee bit of water to it, and plastered my cardboard wreath in kraft paper.  [See a picture below of the wreath covered in kraft paper to get a better idea of what I mean]<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><strong>Step 3: Cut out leaves out of paper<br />Pointer: Some judgement on leaf size will have to be made by you</strong>This is a bit time consuming but grab a ton of kraft paper and cut out large leaves. Although I cut out small, medium and large leaves, the nature of a Magnolia leaf is really that it is all BIG leaves. I didn't use a template - nature isn't perfect, nor were my leaves. You're going to go through a LOT of paper. You don't need anything fancy, just the back of your finger. You don't need a lot of glue because too much glue will flatten your leaf.
