Ilse Crawford + IKEA

I'm finally back after the longest blog break in history, and I have loads of things to show you! First of all, I just returned from an inspiring trip to <a href="http://www.stockholmfurniturelightfair.se/" target="_blank">Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair</a> / <a href="http://www.stockholmdesignweek.com/" target="_blank">Design Week</a> where I saw some great new design. Prior to that, I also spent two whole days exploring the latest trends at <a href="http://www.maison-objet.com/fr" target="_blank">Maison & Objet</a> here in Paris. As a result I now have hundreds and hundreds of photos to sort...<br /><br />But before telling you more about all that, I wanted to show you a few pictures from an event that took place in Stockholm this week (just after I'd left unfortunately): international designer <a href="http://www.studioilse.com/" target="_blank">Ilse Crawford</a>, who was also Guest of Honor at the Furniture fair, presented a sneak peek of her new collection for <a href="http://www.ikea.com/" target="_blank">IKEA</a>!<br /><br /><i>Je suis enfin de retour après la plus longue blog pause de l'histoire, et j'ai plein de choses à vous montrer! D'abord, je viens de rentrer d'une visite inspirante à <a href="http://www.stockholmfurniturelightfair.se/" target="_blank">Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair</a> / <a href="http://www.stockholmdesignweek.com/" target="_blank">Design Week</a> où j'ai pu voir quelques belles nouveautés côté design. Auparavant, j'avais aussi passé deux jours entiers à explorer les dernières tendances à <a href="http://www.maison-objet.com/fr" target="_blank">Maison & Objet</a> ici à Paris. Focus is on natural materials like cork, glass and rustic ceramics, including tables, stools, a daybed, lamps, bottles, pots, baskets...<br />The collection will be launched in the Swedish IKEA stores in August, and now I'm just hoping that it will also reach stores worldwide?!<br /><br /><i>Présentée à <a href="http://www.etthem.se/" target="_blank">Ett Hem</a>, un superbe hôtel dans le centre de Stockholm dont la décoration est également signée <a href="http://www.studioilse.com/" target="_blank">Studioilse</a>, la collection contient 37 pièces de mobilier et d'accessoires. Glad Midsommar!

The reason why I like partnering with companies like Ikea is because there are SO many products that are economical in their stores that you can afford to think outside the box as to how to use them. Working with companies like Ikea pushes me to do just that - think outside the box - so I explained my idea for using the textiles <i>outdoors. Anyhow, here's my thing. We <i>love </i>to entertain for the kids during the Summer. We're really lucky to have a really long garden plus a lane way, so it's perfect for lots of families. We're using our bonfire a lot, and the kids have all come over to roast hotdogs, marshmallows, and the parents all sit and catch up. We live in an amazing neighbourhood, so get togethers like this are becoming more frequent as Oscar gets older. I love having a sense of community, so hosting events - like pot lucks - are a great economical way to get together.<br /><br />Even the most low key of backyard events require some prep. I've occasionally fretted that we need to have tables and chairs / picnic tables for the kids at our BBQ's when really - throwing some blankets on the ground is a great way to create seating. <i>Picnics are the best.</i> But here's what's awesome - pick up individual <a href="http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/90267066/" target="_blank">SIGNE floor mats,</a> and let each kiddo have their own! They can place them all together (oh, so bohemian) Or carry around their own little mat with them where they go. Wouldn't that be great for a beach? Seriously, <i>get some of these mats</i>. You can also grab some of their <a href="http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/categories/departments/Textiles/" target="_blank">blankets </a>in their textile department, and have them on hand for the Summer months for outdoors to lie on. They take up less room than chairs, and it's much more relaxing and inviting in my opinion than formal sitting. This past Saturday I was wrapped in one as I talked with a friend by the crackling fire. There is something lovely about being wrapped in a knit white blanket. It was great having more than one blanket on hand - because I could offer it to those who were with me. Having a stock of blankets on hand is always a great idea. You can use them as blankets to sit on, or, as warmth when the sun sets. (<a href="http://aubreyandlindsay.blogspot.ca/search?q=ikea+frame&x=0&y=0">See a whole bunch of posts here</a>) I've switched around my living room over here and soon you'll see a lot of examples of how I've used the tricks of hacking frames in my own home.<br /><br />I wanted to share this trick of using Ikea's 9" x 9" Ribba Frame that I think isn't used a lot in homes, as it's tricky to find art for it. It's also a shadow box frame, but I use it most commonly as a frame without matting, and push the art to the front of the glass. I think it's the sweetest little frame and with thinking outside the box it works as a great frame for a little ones room or as part of a gallery wall. Bemz Design Award 2014

<div>Dans le but d'encourager et inspirer des designers textile futurs, <a href="http://www.bemz.fr/fr-fr/" target="_blank">Bemz </a>a lancé <a href="http://www.bemz.fr/en/DesignAward/" target="_blank">un concours</a> où les étudiants de différentes écoles de design à travers l'Europe pourraient voir leur création éditée par la marque suédoise (spécialiste des housses adaptées aux canapés, chaises et lits IKEA).<br /><br />J'ai eu l'honneur de participer au <a href="http://www.bemz.fr/en/designaward/members-of-the-judging-panel/" target="_blank">jury français</a>, en très belle compagnie <a href="http://www.bemz.fr/en/designaward/members-of-the-judging-panel/" target="_blank">comme vous pouvez le voir ici</a>, et nous avons eu la difficile tâche de pré-sélectionner trois candidats pour représenter la France.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><a href="http://www.bemz.fr/en/designaward/vote-now/" target="_blank">Il est maintenant au public de voter pour leur préféré!</a></b> Le gagnant de chaque pays verra l'un des ses motifs édité par Bemz et participera également à la grande finale européenne.
